Project Mala
We are proud to share the work of our UK based partner, Project Mala, who have constantly held out a helping hand in India for the abolition of child labour in the hand knotted carpet industry of the country. Founded in 1989, the UK based programme has evolved to be an effective education enabler, for children in the carpet-weaving belt of Uttar Pradesh. Their programme includes education up to secondary school level, hot midday meal for all children and healthcare facilities, which are mostly sponsored by individuals.
As part of our tours, we often take visitors to the weaving locations in India and offer them an opportunity to witness the marvel of the skill of the local artisans. During these trips, they also get a chance to see the astounding work of Project Mala at close quarters. Many of our earlier patrons have offered to help by sponsoring in part or whole, some of the on-ground programmes.
Currently, there are three pre-schools, six primary, three middle and one secondary school being supported by Project Mala. These schools touch lives of more than 1500 students, who are consistently guided to excel in studies and aim for a sustainable future for themselves.
